WHEN'S SPRING EQUINOX?
I am soooooo ready for spring! My NE flora class is just waiting to see wildlflowers. Our "garden" looks like a dead leaf compost pile and my cat has spring fever in a big way. I'm also starved for blossom colors!
Okay, Earth. I'm ready for some warmth and singing bluebirds! My favorite spring "bird song" is actually hearing woodpeckers drumming on the trees. The pileated woodpeckers are really good at it!
I can't wait to try out some new iced tea combinations - I like using licorice, rosemary, and berry herbal teas like strawberry and raspberry. I also tried using cranberry juice to make ice cubes - that kicks it up to a whole new level! We're learning about edible flowers in the flora class, and I'm just waiting to go out to the beaver pond for another one of my classes. I'll bring my home made iced tea and drawing materials for sketching.
Now I just need nice weather! What will you be doing for spring, Voxters??

I shall be planting lettuces and other veggies in my garden. I planted some sugar snap peas a couple of weeks ago. (Mange Tout they call there in the UK, for some odd reason) I have an apple tree and I am eagerly awaiting its blooms. The flowers are coming up, the UK has an early spring that lasts for a long time, which is lovely (and a trade off since summer is relatively short). Things have been blooming there for around a month already. The cherry trees bloomed early this year. Apparently spring has come 4 weeks earlier than normal. Global warming. I have missed the large butterflies the states get. The ones in the Uk are so small. But there are some large bees to watch at work. I also miss the smell of honeysuckle on a warm summer evening. I do not miss the song of the cicadas! At first I always welcome it but then after a month of it, it gets annoying because you know it's bloody hot and humid and there is no relief for awhile yet in the South.
Your garden will come alive, and you will wake up one morning and smell something and realise it is a flower blooming, a tree blossoming, a flowering shrub.
As for teas, can you grow chamomile where you are? It tastes a bit yucky but with honey it's nice, and it helps you sleep. It grows wild in the Uk even though they think it's daisies, it's frigging chamomile.
Cheers, and enjoy the Equinox (the 21st?)
Oooh, I'd take 77!! ;)
Geez sorry about your dental stuff, sounds familiar. You and I have to plan some funner ways to celebrate!
ps Have you had disappearing comments on your website?
You, too? Did you comment/ msg me and I missed it? :(
Hey there!! Good to see you!!
I think this Spring we are going to re-landscape our backyard -- install native drought tolerant plants -- ditching the lawn -- so that we can reduce our water consumption and I think more beautiful. I can't wait!!
Oh, and we'll move happy hour from inside to outside now that its warmer.. :D
Cheers to you, my freind. I will have to do a Spring Equinox post when I figure out the date!
I have to say, you're quite the wordsmith. You've got me dreaming of spring big time (honeysuckle, apple blooms and insomnia from those damned insects LOL). - Did you hear that insecticide may be to blame for CCD? I had only heard about the mites and cell phone causes. This one's news to me!
All global warming's given us so far is nightmares and freakin' ninety freakin' feet of snow and blizzards!!!
I'm seriously hoping to grow herbs - we live in a polluted neighborhood, and we are hoping to install a fence around our lawn so the delinquent neighbors don't ruin our garden. Can I grow herbs indoors? The only thing about chamomile is I'm very allergic, but I do drink Sleepytime and I'm okay with it sometimes. Sleepytime has an herb called Tilia which I want to investigate too....
!! I was going to mention chickadees! That was my grandma's favorite bird, and when I was little that was the first bird song she taught me! ;)
That's so cool that you have redbellieds! They are big strong boys who love to show off! LOL
Good to see you too, sweetie! Happy hour in sandals, on the porch....ahhh, sounds so dreamy. All we need is a hammock! I would love to hear about those drought tolerant plants! I don't plan to water our lawn but maybe that means my garden won't do so well....we normally just let the perennials grow on their own!
If I could get a small planter box to grow herbs, I'd LOVE to do that. You mention herbal teas-- and sun tea with herbal tea bags sounds fantastic. I just need to get a properly big glass jar! :)
