QotD: [this is home]
Where do you consider home? Is it the place you grew up; the place you're currently living? Why is it home?

Bright colors. Cool painted fishes on the walls. And do you see what's past the stairwell? That's the ocean. This is actually some kind of resort on an island. But you get the idea: bright, and sunny. Also clean and minimal.
My dream home certainly doesn't have to be right on the ocean, in fact I'm not crazy about coastline homes because it's harmful to the ecosystem. But we want a place that's within half an hour from the coastline, hopefully near where I'll be doing my research.
Our indoor cats will need a two-story home at least, with plenty of stairs for exercise, and lots of kitty condos. And safe screened in windows for looking outside. In a previous post I also mentioned that ideal barn on our property, whose loft will become our new, bright, sunny cat shelter. With lots of sofas and condos and catnip. So I guess that requires actual land, like the places in Rye, NH. Not cheap, but beautiful. And most decidedly near the water.
Now, the inside decor is another matter altogether. I love the bright colors here, but inside I require soft rugs, preferably maroon colored, and dark wood. Also cozy furniture, but still very minimally decorated. The most amazingly accurate portrayal of my dream home can be found in the now defunct Natural Home magazine. They had incredible decor but completely sustainable materials. I'll try to find some photos.
The swimming part is vital; you know, I was a fish in a former life. I must swim at least once a day. Also an art studio and a home office are required. And see my photos for some Natural Home magazine covers. Must be seen to be believed.
Going to the ocean next week, we'll be looking.

Dark wood- YAY! I love dark would and white walls- the contrast is so neat.I hope you find EXACTLY what you're looking for soon and that you can get it fast!
And then take lots of pix, so we can see!!
Hi Jaypo! Brrrrrrr! I'M COLD!!! Are we really in August?? I hate to complain while our poor neighbors to the south are suffocating in the deadly heat, but I'm so depressed. It's pitch dark and I had to go to the attic for warm clothing. Geez.
I'll go to your blog, though. It always cheers me up!! (Ditto Jamie and RD)
You have the most excellent taste in both a home and it's decor.
I wish you much luck in finding your dream home. :)
Aw, thank you. We looked in Rye NH and guess what, homes are just 2.5 million there. Very affordable! LOL
Well good to meet a fellow sea being. Isn't it so amazing being in the water? Ah, it just can't be explained (to a mere land mortal, LOL)
