LOOKING UP
So yeah I've been busy with grad school again, but one thing I've realized is that I can't be away from Vox anymore. It's too important to me. So thankfully I'm getting a grip on my studies so I can be here more. Yay!
Here are the classes I'm taking:
NRI Wildlife - a wildlife class! Finally!
New England Flora - between classes and projects, 6 to 8 hours deep in the woods. I love it.
GIS - don't ask, don't look it up unless you want your head to explode. Just walk away.
Master's Thesis - here's where it gets prickly.
The good news is that I adore the person teaching us this class. But I'm still working on a subject, of course I'll be hitting up my exceptionally bright Voxters for ideas. You guys haven't let me down yet! I'm thinking some kind of mammal, perhaps mustelids or porcupines. Denning behaior, strip corridors (okay, get your mind out of the gutter there) or use of agricultural areas. Can you tell I'm lost?
Comments
Hmm...all I know about porcupines is that one walked by me in Colorado whilst I was peeing in the woods. It was really not interested in me at all (thank goodness).
I love the lady's slipper picture! And being in the deep woods for hours! Nothing better!!!
I'll try to keep thinking up mustelids ideas! (haha, I just wanted to type mustelids!)
But, seriously, nature is the thing that keeps me sane. As sane as possible, that is.
Mustelids!? Makes me think of something stinky, like "must" glands. Am I right? Anything you choose is ok by me but, personally, I find the strip corridors utterly fascinating. It's that "in-between-ness." Neither here nor there, the magic area where really interesting things can happen...
Maya's back, yay!
Hrm. Sorry, I cannot be anymore witty than those that have posted before me. And I'm not even sure what a mustelid is... Perhaps you should pick that one and edumacate all of us. We could ask you lots of questions!
However, I do not think you are lost--you are searching! :)
Aw! I'm so happy to see you too!! **dances** my dearest happy valley friend!
I still may do strip corridors if I can find one. My prof says that they're not easy to find around here, and if I find one transected by a road I would have to conduct a road study as well. To quote my advisor,
"After you finish all the studies involved, in 20 years or so, you may have an answer". Gulp! I can't afford 20 years of grad school LOL.
But strip corridors are definetly not out yet. There's lots of old farmland around here. **hugs**
Hey! That's a great idea! And (for you too, Jaypo) yes I think it has to do with scent glands, although I'm having brain freeze right now. I always jokingly referred to them as "weaselids" because they are most decidedly weasely. And I don't mean Ron Weasely. ;)
Thanks for the great idea, Caprica!! I will feature a mustelid, perhaps it will help me decide. They are quite cute. (ps a wolverine is a mustelid but they are not found around here.)
Oh, I don't know-- the first paragraph of the the Wikipedia article seemed to encapsulate it rather nicely.
Understanding it in its full complexity; yes I can see heads exploding.
Mammal a mammal/ mano a mano, yo!
Can I come take that course with you? puh-leeeeeeeeeeze????
The picture is lovely!
And I'm glad you're going to be here. We *heart* you!
LOL yeah we wouldn't want a big exploding mess here! I like the examples on Wikipedia (especially the barely relevant cave paintings, very cool though) and I liked the example of the cholera outbreak in London. But I really really like the USGS "poster" (USGS GIS - say it five times fast....)

Vista and Mac users especially have major explosive headaches over this one..
Hey Sweetie, (hey my nickname for you is the same as your cat - cool beans)
Oh you can come with me any time - but be prepared to witness computer monitor abuse, even from the professors. It can be a frustrating program to say the least. But the result is very cool. If you ever get access to ArcView let me know and I'll show you some party tricks to impress your friends. I'll have you creating a map of Belize in five minutes. You'll love it.
****Hugs**** I heart you too!!!
